The Flight Of The Robot Boy
This piece is based off the Japanese anime character Astro Boy which was created by Osamu Tezuka.
The series was about a scientist who shortly before his death had experienced the loss of his son Tobio, and in his grief used his position and influence to build a complete replica of his son as a robot. Astro was built with a series of features, notably his ability to fly via the use of his rocket boots.

A series of artist pencils were used on a sheet of 22.8" x 30.4 paper.
First, a light sketch of Astro Boy was made.
Secondly, light shades were added to the character and some of the buildings to provide the definition of texture and contours.
Some aspects of the line art were enhanced using artist pencils.
