Case Study
This project aimed to raise public awareness about the environmental and economic benefits of water transportation compared to the long-distance trucking industry.
Posters:
Poster 1: Presents statistical data highlighting the inefficiencies of long-distance trucking. It contrasts the high number of trucks transporting small loads—resulting in significant carbon emissions—with the fewer towboats that push larger barges. This poster emphasizes the lower carbon footprint of water transportation due to its ability to move heavier loads more efficiently.
Poster 2: Features a detailed case study illustrating the advantages of water transportation. It discusses factors such as fuel efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and reduced environmental impact, making a compelling case for shifting freight to waterways.
Both posters are 11 x 17 inches and were created in Adobe Illustrator
Diorama:
A visually engaging model diorama was created to enhance understanding of water transportation. This hands-on project took three weeks to complete and was built entirely by hand, showcasing various aspects of waterways and the transportation process. The diorama serves as a powerful visual tool to complement the statistical data and case study.
Through these materials, the project seeks to inform the public about the sustainable potential of water transportation, advocating for a shift from trucking to waterways as a more environmentally friendly and economically viable option for moving goods.
